Textual Analysis of CD Cover 1

The artist featured on this album cover is being portrayed as the stereo typical gangster rapper, he is portrayed in this image through the use of the photo and text, and the mis en scene including the location, the costume and the body language. The image used of the artist, P money is the first thing that the audience see and notice straight away. It is a simple image composed of P money sitting on a stair case in what seems to be a council block with a very provocative pose made with his hands in the shape of what appears to be guns. The image itself is a representation of grime music which speaks of the urban street culture in the uk, so immediately it can be suggested that this image is being used to that maybe the artist target audience can relate to him and where he’ s coming from. What is also very interesting about this image is how the excessive graffiti has been edited to cover all the walls and some of the stair case it can be suggested that this has been edited like that to represent the grittier side to the artists life and surroundings in an extreme style, on the one hand we can say that this is not a very welcoming iomage due to the provocative poses and location however it maybe seen just an an extreme representation of reality for the artist and his target audience to relate to which is typical amongst artists of this genre. The title positioned between all the graffiti in a complete different font using the colour black and red against the white wall, the style of the font is made to look like a scratched sticker to again match the graffiti wall. Again this is an attempt to harden the artists image and give an extreme representation of the genre, where it originates from, and who it represents. The artists costume is also quite simple but very effective it consists of a standard black tracksuit, black fitted cap and gold watch, Again here is another representation of the grime genre and its audience
